5G: NEXT GENERATION OF MOBILE AND INTERNET CONNECTIVITY.
What Exactly is 5G?
5G is the next generation wireless network technology that we are expecting to change the way we live and work for good. It is designed to greatly increase the speed and response of wireless networks, we will see exponentially faster download and upload speed. By estimate data transmitted over wireless connection can travel as high as 20 gigabits per second (Gbps). This network will allow a large number of devices to access the mobile internet at the same time. With 5G whatever we can do with our mobile devices at the moment, we will be able to do much faster and better. It will first operate in conjunction with the existing 4G networks before it evolves to a fully standalone network as coverages are expanded.

5G will drive entirely new services and business models we don't know of yet. In the process unlocking technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) which will enable businesses to improve their operations and identify new revenue streams. It will drive the smart cities of the future. Tech companies around the globe declare that 5G will transform the world for the better, its adoption might take years but it will change how the world is connected and the manner in which businesses are conducted and managed and this will go beyond the technology sector.

Benefits Of 5G To Education.
The next generation students deserves the next generation of smart classrooms. It will change how students learn in the future and provide a seamless learning experience for them. YouTube is a very preferred educational resources to many students, downloading a hight quality (1080p) video on 4G takes forever but with 5G imagined downloading a feature-length movie in a matter of seconds or maybe less. Amazing right? I thought so. Every student's style of learning and ability is different, this network will allow students to continue learning outside the classroom regardless of distance and location they will access the same information and exercises as their peers.
South Africa's Preparation For 5G?
South Africa is expected to lead the Sub Saharan Africa as it is the most advanced market in the region, although mass deployment and adoption are still several years away due to the cost of infrastructure because in order to implement 5G you need a certain level of infrastructure. President Ramaphosa has already shared with us his vision to upgrade the country from 4G to 5G networks. This will allow the vision of smart cities to come to life. But Telecommunications companies like Telkom, MTN and Vodacom are finding it difficult to launch 5G services because of lack of spectrum licensed to them by the Independent Communication Authority Of South Africa (ICASA) and the department of communication has dragged their feet when it comes to freeing up and licensing frequencies. So network coverage is still patchy and with the shortage of electricity, mobile phone masts and fibre optic cables as well as data costs all need to be overcome first.
